Disney's Yacht Club- A Review
Disney's Yacht Club, the sister property to The Beach Club, is a New England Style Deluxe Resort and Convention Center. Located a short walk from EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, the Yacht Club offers 630 guest rooms.
On our most recent Disney trip in November, I was fortunate enough to stay at this resort. This was a last minute trip and it appeared all of the resorts were booked. I had originally booked a room at Pop Century since that was the only room we could book. For some reason I kept checking Disney's website and about 5 days before we were supposed to leave I saw an opening at the Yacht Club had opened, and it had a Passholder Discount (yessss!). I quickly snagged this reservation because I have always wanted to stay here. Since pricing depends on when you visit Disney I will say this praticular discount allowed me to stay at a Deluxe Resort for the price of a Moderate Resort.
This resort absolutely stunning! It was recently renovated and we were very fortunate to stay in a renovated room that had a water view and boardwalk view (despite only paying for a standard view). The picture below is from the beautiful sunrise that we caught on our first morning in the room. As you can see from the below picture, the Yacht Club and Beach Club is a perfect resort for anyone who want a scenic view during their morning stroll or to just sit out on the balcony to enjoy your morning tea (or coffee if you drink it). During RunDisney events runners typically run over the boardwalk for some of their final miles. One thing to note if you are interested in staying here, all of the rooms at the Yacht Club have balconies and patios, while only some have balconies at the Beach Club.
My favorite time at Disney, has to be Christmas time. As someone who has a Christmas birthday, no one does Christmas decorations quite like Disney. We arrived in Florida on November 15th because we wanted to make sure we could see Disney at Christmas Time. When we arrived the parks had the Christmas decorations however none of the resorts had decorations. On November 16th we spent most of the day at the Parks and then finished the day at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. After being exhausted from our fun filled day we walked blindly into the resort and went to sleep. On Friday we woke up bright and early because we had booked a VIP tour that started at 8:30am. As we walked into the lobby we were stunned to see that overnight the resort has transformed into a nautical winter wonderland. Garland was strong about and all of the trees were decorated with nautical ornaments. Honestly, you could spend a day just exploring the Christmas decorations at the Boardwalk, Yacht and Beach Clubs. I don't know how Disney keeps the magic but you have to commend them for working through the night to make this happen!
The top reason I chose to stay at this resort is for the pool. The pool, also known as Stormalong Bay, is a shared sand bottom pool with the Beach Club. If you cannot pencil in a day to stay at the pool, there is really no reason to stay at this resort. The pool is home to the longest water slide on Disney Resorts property, as well as a lazy river that is 8ft deep. You have multiple hot tubs, and endless lounge chairs spread thought out the pool area. This pool has something for everyone, shallow water for little kids, a sand bar to build sand castles while splashing in the water, a pool bar located right next to the lazy river, and a sun deck over looking the pool. We spent a whole day here and it wasn't enough.
Overall, I highly recommend staying at the Yacht Club resort. The Yacht Club is more of a business hotel, seeing as it houses a convention hall. When we were there, there was a medical conference so a lot of the occupants were older professionals so we did not see a lot of children running around the resort (unlike the Beach Club which is more family friendly). The convenience of this resort to two major parks is reason enough why we are deciding between staying at the Beach Club or the Boardwalk for our Septmeber trip. Although I want to stay at all the Disney resorts to truly find my favorite resort, right now the Yacht Club is leading the pack!
